Every year for the last three years, KPMB has participated in the Society for Design Administration's Canstruction Competition. In cities around the world, teams participate in a design/build competition in which structures are erected entirely out of canned and packaged foods, which are then donated to a local food bank.
This year in Toronto, the competition was held on November 6th at the Toronto Dominion Centre and Simcoe Place. Partnered with Halsall Associates Ltd, the joint-venture team took top honour with their structure “Taken Under Wing”. The design and execution represents a mother bird feathering her wings in order to provide warmth and security for her hatchlings. One team member described the design's inspiration as coming from the work of the Daily Bread Food Bank: “It is humanity’s duty to share, and the Daily Bread Food Bank’s greatest endeavour is to provide for the basic human need for nourishment - to give those in need the energy to embark on brighter futures.”
The structures weighed in at 70,000 pounds, all of which is to be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank.
A special thanks to all of team members and volunteers that participated in this year’s victory at Canstruction 2007!
