Victoria Memorial Museum Building (VMMB)

"While a six-year, multi-phase $216-million transformation of the Victoria Memorial Museum in Ottawa won't be completed until 2010, the century-old vision of this landmark heritage building has already been realized.

A centrepiece glass lantern, which symbolically recreates an 80-foot-high central tower that was demolished in 1915 because of the area's sensitive Leda clay, is the most striking exterior feature of this complex renewal project.

PKG Joint Venture Architects, a consortium of Barry Padolsky Architects Inc. Ottawa; KPMB Architects, Toronto; and Gagnon, Letellier, Cyr, Richard Mathieu of Quebec City; is the design architect of the project which has included an intricate mix of new construction, the painstaking restoration of heritage elements, the installation of new mechanical and electrical systems, plus a comprehensive renovation of existing galleries and the creation of new ones."
